The first time he refined this technique was in his debut novel, Aces, and he went on to use it in his following novels. Initially, he started writing the Expeditionary Force series for young adults.Ĭraig Alanson has said that he is very fond of putting his characters in difficult situations and getting them out of all the impossible situations by depicting them as clever and courageous. ![]() He has also written a stand-alone novel called Aces, a middle grade/YA space opera. Like many other science fiction writers before him, he has extended his writing into the mystery genre. In addition to the Expeditionary Force novels, he is the author of a popular series known as the Ascendant series. Alanson is a reputed novelist of the science fiction and fantasy genres. The tremendous success of this series has established Craig Alanson as a prominent author of the science fiction genre. The books of this series are highly appreciated by readers from around the world. These operations are termed as special operations and the task force sent to carry out the missions are the members of an elite group of soldiers called the Expeditionary Force. Every book features a different space mission conducted under the command of the United Nations. It is written by a well-known American novelist named Craig Alanson. The Expeditionary Force book series is a wonderful series of science fiction, military fiction, and space opera novels. ![]() ![]() Particularly in the early chapters we could have done without the repeated descriptions of pubescent breasts! Once you notice, you realise that he does it every time. Unfortunately Rutherford seems unable to describe a young female character without mentioning her sexual attributes. Likewise the book taught me quite a lot of history. Nonetheless, I learnt a lot of interest about the Salisbury region and have already booked a visit to the city. ![]() The further I got through this audiobook the less I felt invested in the characters. Although the device of following family lines through the ages is an interesting one, the sheer plethora of characters that that device requires cannot easily all be given their own gripping story. It did not repay the investment of time (57 hours). Unfortunately, ultimately I found this book a little disappointing. So I was glad to see this addition on Audible recently. Nonetheless I had been looking out for the audiobook version because I wanted to finish the story. ![]() ![]() I had previously started the paperback version of this book, enjoyed it as far as I got but got overwhelmed by the length. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He also recalls their society when Finny used to jump into the river Devon. As an introvert and rational, Gene is the contrast to Finny’s extrovert and carefree life. The story takes a plunge into the past of both the boys when they were friends despite having opposite personalities. He particularly remembers, Finn when WWII suddenly ushered in an era of enthusiasm for the boys to enlist in the army and fight for the nation. After visiting both of these places, he recalls his student days at Devon and becomes reflective about the weather of the 1940s when he was 16 and lived there with his roommates. In his school, Devon, Gene feels nostalgic about the marble stairs and the big tree on the bank of the river of the same name. He was given a Sign and later told he was part of the Old Ones. The book is about Will, a 11 year boy whose birthday is coming up.
